7. Customer Cancellation and Refund Policy
We understand that travel plans may change.
The following cancellation policy applies to tours booked directly with Lake Above the Ocean, unless different conditions are clearly disclosed and accepted before purchase.
More than 48 hours before departure
Customers may cancel their booking and receive a full refund of the tour price.
48 hours or less before departure
Cancellations made 48 hours or less before the scheduled departure are non-refundable.
Failure to attend
No refund will normally be issued if a customer fails to attend the scheduled tour without cancelling within the permitted cancellation period.
Late arrival
Customers who arrive after the departure time may be unable to participate. Missing the departure does not automatically entitle the customer to a refund.
Private tours
Private tours are subject to the cancellation policy explicitly displayed and accepted during booking. Unless a different policy is disclosed, the standard 48-hour cancellation policy applies.
How to cancel
Cancellation requests must be submitted by email to info@lakeabovetheocean.com or through an available cancellation function in the booking system.
The cancellation time is determined by when the request is received, using the local time in the Faroe Islands.
Any more favourable cancellation conditions stated in the customer’s booking confirmation will take precedence.
Nothing in this section limits mandatory consumer rights under applicable law.
8. Refund Processing
Where a refund is due, it will normally be returned to the original payment method used for the transaction.
Approved refunds will be initiated within 14 calendar days after the refund entitlement has been established.
The time required for the refunded amount to appear in the customer’s account depends on the payment provider, bank and card issuer.
We do not charge a separate administrative fee for refunds covered by the full-refund provisions of these terms.
If a refund cannot be processed through the original payment method, we will contact the customer to arrange a secure and appropriate alternative in accordance with applicable payment-provider requirements.
Refunds will not exceed the amount originally paid for the relevant booking, except where additional compensation is required by law.
9. Cancellation by Lake Above the Ocean
The Faroe Islands are known for rapidly changing weather conditions.
For safety and operational reasons, Lake Above the Ocean reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a tour due to circumstances including:
Unsafe weather conditions.
Strong winds or dangerous water conditions.
Poor visibility affecting safe operations.
Technical or mechanical problems.
Illness or unexpected unavailability of essential crew members.
Official safety restrictions.
Other circumstances making the experience unsafe or impossible to operate.
If Lake Above the Ocean cancels a confirmed tour before departure, customers will be offered:
An alternative departure date, subject to availability; or
A full refund of the amount paid for the cancelled experience.
Customers are not required to accept an alternative date.
Where a full refund is chosen, it will be processed in accordance with Section 8.
Lake Above the Ocean is not responsible for independently booked flights, accommodation, rental cars or other third-party travel expenses, except where liability cannot legally be excluded.
10. Changes to Tours and Itineraries
The tour itinerary may be adjusted to accommodate weather, safety, accessibility or operational conditions.
The captain and guide have authority to make decisions concerning the safe operation of the experience.
Minor changes that do not materially affect the nature of the purchased experience do not automatically entitle customers to a refund.
If a substantial part of the booked experience cannot be provided, we will assess an appropriate alternative, partial refund or full refund based on the circumstances and applicable consumer rights.
If a tour must be stopped after departure due to unexpected safety concerns, any refund or other remedy will be assessed according to the services delivered, the circumstances and applicable law.
11. Weather Conditions
All boat and hiking experiences take place in a natural outdoor environment.
Weather conditions in the Faroe Islands may change quickly.
Customers should be prepared for rain, wind, low temperatures and changing visibility.
A tour may operate in rain or cloudy weather if the captain and guide determine that conditions are safe.
Customers who independently decide not to participate because of weather conditions are subject to the standard cancellation policy, unless the tour is cancelled by Lake Above the Ocean or mandatory law provides otherwise.
Safety decisions made by the captain and guide must be respected.
12. Participant Responsibilities and Safety
Participation in the tour involves outdoor activities, including boating, walking and hiking on natural terrain.
Participants must:
Follow all reasonable instructions from the captain, guide and crew.
Wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
Use safety equipment when instructed.
Remain within designated safe areas.
Inform staff of relevant accessibility or assistance requirements.
Avoid behaviour that endangers themselves or others.
Supervise children in their care.
Participants must not attend while under the influence of alcohol or drugs in a manner that compromises safety.
We reserve the right to refuse or discontinue participation where a person presents a significant safety risk or refuses to follow essential safety instructions.
Any decision to refuse participation will be handled fairly and in accordance with applicable law.
13. Health, Fitness and Accessibility
The experience includes walking and hiking on natural terrain, which may be uneven, wet or slippery.
Customers should consider whether the experience is suitable for their physical abilities.
Guests with mobility limitations, medical considerations or accessibility requirements are encouraged to contact us before booking so we can explain the nature of the activity and discuss reasonable accommodations.
We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate participants where safe and practical.
We cannot guarantee that all parts of the tour are suitable for every mobility level.
Customers should not disclose more personal medical information than is reasonably necessary to assess safe participation.
14. Children and Minors
Children are welcome on tours where the specific activity is suitable for their age and abilities.
Children must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult unless explicitly agreed otherwise.
Any age restrictions, child pricing, safety requirements or limitations will be disclosed before booking.
The standard child pricing is:
Children under 2 years participate free of charge.
Children aged 2–11 years receive a 50% discount.
Participants aged 12 and above pay the standard adult price.
All children must be included in the booking’s participant count, including children participating free of charge.
The captain or guide may impose reasonable safety requirements regarding children, including the use of suitable life jackets.
15. Food, Allergies and Dietary Requirements
Food and beverages included in the tour are described on the relevant product page.
Guests with allergies, food intolerances or dietary requirements should notify us before departure, preferably when making the booking.
We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate requests where possible.
However, meals may be prepared or handled in environments where common allergens are present.
We cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment unless this has been expressly confirmed.
Customers with serious allergies should contact us before booking to determine whether suitable arrangements can be made.
16. Personal Belongings
Customers are responsible for their personal belongings during the experience.
We recommend protecting cameras, phones and other electronic equipment from rain, moisture and accidental damage.
Lake Above the Ocean is not responsible for loss or damage to personal belongings unless caused by circumstances for which we are legally liable.
17. Liability and Insurance
Lake Above the Ocean is responsible for providing its services with reasonable care and skill and in accordance with applicable safety requirements.
Outdoor boating and hiking activities involve inherent risks, including changing weather, uneven terrain, slippery surfaces and movement of the vessel.
Participants must follow safety instructions and exercise reasonable personal care.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or restricts liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence where such exclusion is prohibited, fraud, wilful misconduct or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded.
Any limitations of liability apply only to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Customers are encouraged to maintain appropriate personal travel and medical insurance.
18. Travel Arrangements and Third-Party Services
Unless expressly included in the purchased experience, the booking does not include:
International or domestic flights.
Accommodation.
Rental vehicles.
Travel insurance.
Transportation to or from the meeting point.
Other independently booked activities.
Customers are responsible for arranging transportation to the meeting point and allowing sufficient travel time.
We are not responsible for delays or cancellations affecting independently arranged travel services, except where required by applicable law.
19. Right of Withdrawal
Bookings for leisure activities scheduled for a specific date or period may be exempt from the general statutory withdrawal rights that apply to certain distance purchases.
Where such an exemption applies under Faroese law, customers do not have an additional automatic withdrawal right solely because the booking was made online.
The cancellation and refund policy in Section 7 will nevertheless apply.
Where mandatory legislation grants a customer additional rights, those rights remain unaffected.
20. Customer Complaints and Disputes
We aim to resolve complaints fairly and promptly.
Customers should submit complaints to:

We aim to acknowledge complaints within five business days and provide a substantive response within 14 calendar days, where reasonably possible.
If further investigation is required, we will inform the customer.
Customers retain the right to contact their payment provider, card issuer or relevant consumer authority where appropriate.
Nothing in these terms limits lawful chargeback rights or mandatory consumer remedies.
21. Personal Data and Privacy
We process personal information necessary to manage bookings, payments, customer communications and the delivery of our services.
This may include:
Customer names.
Email addresses and telephone numbers.
Booking and participant information.
Payment transaction references.
Relevant dietary or accessibility information voluntarily supplied by customers.
